Denis and Marie Louise to Algoma mills, Ontario to exchange their marriage vows. On 26 June 1889, Denis James Beaudry, 28 years old, son of Amable Beaudry and Catherine Stoqua, married Marie Louise Latreille, 14 years old, daughter of Thomas Latreille & Marguerite Bellemore. The witness's were Louis Barrett and Albina Lecuyer. Father A. Baudin SJ blessed the union.
On the Marriage Certificate there was an error. Catherine's name was written as "Therese Toga". After a long search, I deduced that the error was caused by Denis's pronunciation of his mother's name with an Indian accent. I also deuced that the priest had a hearing problem as there is a hesitation on the writing of the name "Therese". Besides, there is no one bearing the name Therese in that generation. Many bear thename Katherine as was the usual fashion of naming children after their grandmothers or mothers.
For this happy event, Marie-Louise wore a pretty dusty rose dress and carried a hand bag of the same colour. She had probably made her own wedding apparel. In my imagination, I can see her tall, svelte, pretty and very serious for her 14 years. Her hair was rolled into a chignon (french bun) as demanded the style of the times. She was elated with happiness, nervous and anticipation and her feet kept dancing in her button boots.
The young couple settled in Massey. Their house was situated on Main Street where the I. G. A. is today. A few years later, Louis, her brother and his bride Mary Faubert settled next door to them. The two families, living side by side, shared many happy times together until Louisand his family moved to Espenola.
They had nine sons and five daughters, named Frank Dennis
